Augusoft offers grants to lifelong learning programs
Minneapolis, MN – August 18, 2003

Augusoft is offering a grant to lifelong learning programs who are interested in purchasing its flagship software system, Lumens. The company began offering the grant to potential customers in early 2002 and shortly after its inception, the grant had its first recipient.

The idea for the grant came from Cem Erdem, President and CEO of Augusoft. Erdem was worried that many lifelong learning organizations had to forego the purchase of crucial learning management tools because their education budgets could not cover the cost. Erdem explains, "Today, it is increasingly difficult to effectively operate a lifelong learning program without the support of a Web-based system to help with registration, catalog creation and program management."

Erdem also noted that many of the programs that can't afford software management tools serve the most crucial needs in their communities, such as job retraining. Erdem decided that the best way to provide these programs with the power of Web-based program management was to create a one-time grant that could be applied towards the purchase of Lumens Web-based learning management system. Augusoft's grant offers lifelong learning programs the ability to purchase Lumens at a price that can fit their budget.

The grant application focuses on the potential customer's dedication to providing learning opportunities to all learners, but focuses especially on helping programs that aid learners who have traditionally had less access to lifelong learning.

The application, which takes less than ten minutes to fill out, asks applicants a set of questions about the focus of their learning program. The questions are designed to provide a measure of how well the learning program meets the class taking needs of disadvantaged learners. It also looks at how well a program encourages diversity with its class offerings.

Lumens is the first software of its kind. Designed completely Web-based, the software can be used by anyone with access to the internet through a Web-browser. In addition to accepting both online and traditional registration methods, Lumens offers a growing set of management tools necessary to run a lifelong learning program. Included with Lumens are advanced student registration capabilities, catalog creation utilities and an expansive set of reports that cover financial, operations and registration analysis. In short, Lumens is a powerful tool for 21st century continuing education management. The grant for lifelong learning programs has the potential to help continuing education programs gain access to the future of lifelong learning.
